This is a huge year for him in the majors, with The Masters that he has won in 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005. The US Open at Pebble beach where he won by 15 shots in 2000 and The Open at ST Andrews where he won the last two times it was there, in 2000 and 2005. If he wants to catch Jack Nicklaus he will have to play. It is expected he will return to action at the 2010 Masters, in which case he will want to get a couple of events in beforehand so he could return to action mid March. No one knows for certain.
