Curling was invented in Scotland in the 1500's (although over 500 years it has evolved into a very different game than it was originally) and perfected in Canada over the last 100 years or so.

Curling gained its current status as an Olympic sport in 1998 (Nagano). It was however, featured in the Olympics a handful of times before that (as an official sport in 1924, and as a demonstration sport a few times in between then and 1998).
