Winston was force out of sponsoring certain things. Then Nextel stepped in, thus we now have the nextel cup. Winston was also force out of NHRA drag racing, now we have the poweraid championship. After it was deemed illegal to advertise tobacco products, Winston was forced to stop sponsering NASCAR's premier series.
It is no longer known as the Winston Cup, it is known as the Sprint Cup Series now and the winner of the 2008 championship is Jimmie Johnson, Driver of the 48 Lowes Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports.
