The olympic torch represents the theft of fire from Zeus by Prometheus the giant. It also might represent a relay run in the late Ancient Olympics in which a team of runners passed a torch between them and the last runner lit a huge torch. It is a tradition to light the flame at the beginning of all Modern Olympics.

The olympic flame is lit in Olympia month before the games, the exact route the torch takes is up to the individual Olympic organizing committees, however after the protests in Europe with the Beijing torch, the IOC has now said that after the greek leg, the enitre torch relay must take place in the host country.
i do not now
The torch relay has now finished - since the games have already started. There were 8,000 individuals carrying the torch in relay, over a distance of 8,000 miles.
The Olympic flame is a practice continued from the ancient Olympic Games. In Olympia (Greece), a flame was ignited by the sun and then kept burning until the closing of the Olympic Games. The flame first appeared in the modern Olympics at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. The flame itself represents a number of things, including purity and the endeavor for perfection. In 1936, the chairman of the organizing committee for the 1936 Olympic Games, Carl Diem, suggested what is now the modern Olympic Torch relay. The Olympic flame is lit at the ancient site of Olympia by women wearing ancient-style robes and using a curved mirror and the sun. The Olympic Torch is then passed from runner to runner from the ancient site of Olympia to the Olympic stadium in the hosting city. The flame is then kept alight until the Games have concluded. The Olympic Torch relay represents a continuation from the ancient Olympic Games to the modern Olympics.
Right now it's going through 3 places Gedney, Bourne and Holbeach
it didnt get lit up in 1992 because it had now place to put the flam
The flame is lit wherever the games are. Right now in Vancouver, in two years it will be in London.
- They were playing in naked but right now they are wearing Olympic clothes. - Right now it changed lots of designs. - In Ancient Olympic they didn't had torch relay, in modern Olympic they have torch relay. - In Ancient Olympic they didn't had a flag, but right now we have the six colorful ring flag.
One "lights" the halide torch and it burns a blue flame. While the flame is burning blue, one uses a "sniffer" tube to probe for a chloroflurocarbon leak, (older style, ozone depleating refrigerant). The sniffer tube sucks in the leak and causes the flame to turn a greenish color due to the burning of the refrigerant. Thus one has now detected a leak. There are also other methods available for detecting a leak ie. soap bubbles, dyes, and electronic leak detectors.
the ancient Greek Olympic symbol was five different coloured wreaths exactly positioned like the ones now.
