Skateboarding is getting more and more popular everyday so the answer is today
Well skateboarding originiated from a group of surfers that did not want to wait in the heat of the day to catch a wave so they put axels and wheels on their surf boards and started "surfing the streets". Now today skateboarding has to deal with many things like skateboard parks and diffrent tricks and accessories and also skateboarding is now used with a couple pieces of plywood put under about 2 tons of pressure to give the plywood the curves and then cut by hand or machiene into diffrent sizes like 7.5 (which i skate) or 7.6 and so on. Also skateboarding became a extreme sport and now thousands of people skate. Hope this helped any. :)
Skateboarding began by surfers taking wheels off of roller skates and putting the wheels onto little pieces of wood. Miniature surf boards is what the surfers called them back in the 1950s when they were first invented. well, skateboarding is an extreme sport that was invented by Firas & Mona Aboushamalah in the late 1967s. It was a shallow sport when along came many contests and announced pro's. There were many tricks that involve potential, volvalation, and concentration. You simply start off with 3 different stages of skateboards. First the bantam(easy), Intermediate(medium) Expert(hard) you use a bantam if your a novice player. Intermediate if you have been playin for about a year or so and know half the tricks. Expert if you know every trick and can land each simply. You can skateboard at local skateparks located in your city/town or whatever. These are the basics of Skateboarding. Remember, Mona and Firas Aboushamalah invented skateboarding using flat boards then longboards then the boards you see today. They quit skateboarding and now are owners of a new resteraunt in Hawaii called "Cookie Munch Monday."
Soccer today can be seen everywhere! :) Very popular sport
The first sport in Australia was an aboriginal game called marngrook. This was later adapted to become AFL, or Australian Rules Football, a very popular game today.
Skateboarding was made by surfers in California who wanted to get the feel of surfing when the waves where flat. They then took any thing they could wooden doors, wood planks, or crates and attached rollerblade wheels to the bottom of them to skateboard. Later on skateboarding started to progress with stores making skateboards and skateboarding equment. The things made early for skateboarding were not that good. Over time skateboarding evoled into what it is today.
Basically, most of the same ones as today, except for the EXTREME ones and snowboarding and skateboarding. Some sports that were played. Baseball was a huge favorite American pasttime. Other sports included boxing, tennis, football, golf, swimming and polo.
no basketball is not presently an Olympic sport today
Skateboarding used to be called "sidewalk surfing". it happened when surfers couldnt surf and the put trucks and wheels on the bottom. Soon after "sidewalk surfing" began, people re-dubbed it as "skateboarding" and they changed the board shape and size. Thats why longboards are accepted in the skateboarding community
Since skateboards began in the late 50's in CA with the surfing crowd the first skateboards were made one by one as individual pieces. In 1963 when skateboarding was at it's peak companies like Jack's, Hobie, and Markaha were in business in CA. Then, in 1965 skateboarding popularity crashed and companies folded so people were back to making their own skateboards. In 1972 Frank Nasworthy invented urethane skateboard wheels and opened a company called Cadillac Wheels and skateboarding was again popular. In the spring of 1975 skateboarding took another step toward the sport we see today. In Del Mar, CA the Zephyr team showed the world what skateboarding could be while riding their boards like no one else had. That took the hobby to something serious and exciting. Yet, by end of the 1970's skateboarding faced its second crash in popularity. Many skate parks closed and skateboarding was back to the underground movement it once was. During the 1980's small skateboard companies owned by skateboarders started cropping up. New shapes and styles were tried. It has been an up and down sport, but just keeps "rolling" along.
Sport; merriment; frolicsome amusement.
Soccer (or Association Football) became recognized as a "Sport" under the Cambridge Rules of 1848. From there the rules were refined in 1857 in Sheffield England until they became the rules as we know them today. To be honest, the sport was developed well before then as the sport was used a training regimen by Chinese forces in 3000 BC and throughout history since. Many would claim it as the first sport ever played.
