Cepeda, was primarily a first baseman with the San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland A's and finished his career with the Kansas City Royals. Cepeda played a couple of season's as the Giants regular left fielder as the Giants worked McCovey into the lineup at first and then in left, but played the bulk of his career at first. Toward the end of his career, after the designated hitter rule was instituted in the American League, Cepeda was used primarily as a DH and was used exclusively as a DH with Kansas City in his last season, 1974.
