Wilma Rudolph was the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field events at the Olympics. She tied the world record in the 100-meter and set a new Olympic record in the 200. This was at the 1960 Olympic games in Rome, Italy.
When Wilma was a child she was very tiny and sickly, before wilma turned five she got sicker than ever…during this sickness Wilma left leg twisted inward & she couldn't move it bak……when the doctor came to see her he said beside scarlet fever Wilma was stricken with polio ( in those days most children who got polio either died or were permenantly cripple, there was no cure) But at last Wilma over came her polio by doing leg excercises & she could finally get off her brace and be a normal person……Wilma grew up to be a famous runner….she Achived 3 gold medals in the Olympics (track and field games) when she was representing the United states. Wilma Rudolph once known as the sickliest child in clarksville, had become the fastest woman in the world. I wish that I helped u bye.;)
