A high jump athlete should focus on a height they they are comfortable with at first. A beginning high jumper will not have learned the proper jumping techniques, and as they practice and learn, their high jump heights will rise.

The long jump is where you have a long strip of sand which you run to and jump as far as you can along it whilst the high jump is where there is a pole which the athletes have to jump over and it gets raised every time each athlete has jumped. :)

It all depends on the athlete. Each one has their own amount of steps that they need to take before jumping
they have different bars and mats and also the athletes wear spikes on their shoes. Back then they diddn't have spikes on their shoes US Athlete Dick Fosbury was no flop......
High jump scoring is based on the athlete's ability to clear successive heights, with each competitor given three attempts at each height. If an athlete successfully clears a height, they move on to the next, while failures at three consecutive attempts at a height result in elimination. The athlete's final score is determined by the highest height they successfully cleared. In the event of a tie, the athlete with fewer total attempts at all heights cleared is ranked higher.
Friction occurs between the athlete's feet and the takeoff board during the long jump. This friction allows the athlete to push off with force to propel themselves forward into the jump. Additionally, there is also friction between the athlete's body and the air as they move through the jump.
