In order for your throw to be legal, you must stay within the lines of the pit (the circle where you throw the discus), and the discus must land within two given lines chalked out on the field.
In some American high schools, you must also follow other league rules such as entering & exiting through the back of the pit, removing all jewelry before entering the pit, tucking in your shirt, etc.

Who made the rules for golf?
The first rules of golf were a code of thirteen laws created in 1744 from the Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers.
