Each player of the winning team of the Stanley cup gets to spend a day with the cup. After all players have spent their day with it will be passed on to the team that wins next year's Stanley Cup.
The names of all the players on the team, coaches, and management grace the surface of the Stanley Cup. When more space is needed another ring is added to the bottom of the cup. It takes 13 years for a ring to be completely filled. Once this happens they remove a upper ring and put it on display in the NHL Hall of Fame.
Don Cherry doesn't have a Stanley Cup ring. He lost to the Montreal Canadiens in both of his appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals (1977 and 1978) as coach of the Boston Bruins.
