The players are given seedings according to their performances that year or their world ranking. Basically in a tournament say of 64 competitors 1st seed v 64th seed, 2nd seed v 63rd seed, 3rd seed v 62nd seed, 4th seed v 61 seed etc, all the way down to 32nd seed v 33rd seed. The way it is designed allows in the final the 1st seed to play the 2nd seed.

In the 1990-91 season
