When you have the Basketball and you run or walk more then one step without bouncing it
Travelling is taking two consecutive steps with different feet without dribbling the ball, unless the ball is released after the second step and before the third step occurs. I arrive at this conclusion not by the rule book, but by watching Basketball on TV.

∙ 13y agoTraveling in any level of basketball is when the player with the ball takes two step without dribbling the ball. Once a player stops dribbling they can only move on foot and the other foot, the pivot foot must remain on the floor, if it moves the refs will then call a traveling violation.

∙ 12y agoThree steps without dribbles, the ball's turned over.
You can pivit, though. After you use your dribble, you can keep one foot on the ground and move the other. You cannot dribble again, but you can pass or shoot. If you pass and get it back, you can dribble again.

there are a number of terms used by referees to explain fouls there's contact fouls like a push (where the referee will do a pushing motion) or a block, where the defending player will purposely block the path for the player with the ball(the referee crosses their arms across their chest and steps forward) there are also other ones like when a defending player puts his/her arms across the offending players arms in an attempt to get the ball its the same with shooting when you get hit in the face or something. there is also cross-court (the referee will move their arm from side to side)which is when the player with the ball has both feet on both sides of the center lineit can also be called when the offending team takes the ball down their end and they go backwards over the center line. there are other ones without hand movementslike when the offending player stands still without passing the ball for 8 seconds or when a player is the the key for more than 3-5 seconds, the amount of time varies between age groups. or when you are taking a foul/penalty shot and you either jump over the line or the ball doesnt hit the hoop it is called a violation. hope that's helpfulthere are more terms but i cant remember them at the moment
