Its basically the same thing as being tagged. If he has the ball still in his possesion and the runner collides. Its an out. Same concept when a runner is running home and the catcher is attempting a tag out because they are off the plate. Collisions happen. But if the ball is in a glove... the collision is also considered an out.

What does a shortstop in baseball do?

Shortstop is a essential role in a baseball team. Without the shortstop the Left fielder would have a lot of running up to do. Another thing a shortstop does is help with double plays. Often the shortstop is the team captain. When the ball is hit to the right side of the field, the shortstop covers 2nd base. Often when a base runner tries to steal 2nd the shortstop covers.

Is it a hit when an infield attemps a fielder's choice and the runners are all called safe with no errors?

No matter what, in a fielders choice play the batter is given and 0 for 1 in the record books. It is based on the thought that if the defense had attempted a play on the batter he most surely would have been out. You misunderstood the question. If a fielder's choice is attmpted, but all runners are save and no error is scored it's a hit ... since the fielder's choice didn't actually happen.

There are runners on first and second and a line drive is hit to the left fielder who makes the throw to third to get the force out Does the batter get awarded a base hit or is it a fielder's choice?

A batter is never awarded a base hit when a runner is forced out, regardless of where the ball is hit.

Is the catcher allowed to stand on the plate with out the ball?

Yes. He/she belongs there. However, he/she cannot tag any runners out. Only the fielder with the baseball can tag runners out. That's why fielders often pass to make tag-outs occur even faster.

A pop fly is bobbled by the outfielder and the runner takes off before he has control of the ball is it out?

The runner would be out if he does not return to the base before the fielder throws it to the base. Runners may advance from their base as soon as the ball is touched by a fielder. In this case, the runner would not be out.

What happens if in baseball the ball gets stuck in a runners jersey?

If it was a hit ball and the ball was stuck in the runners jersey then the runner is out assuming he had the first contact with the ball. If a fielder has the ball stuck in the jersey then the ball is dead and the hitter would be safe at first.

What is the baseball tag up rule?

because without one all the runners on base would be able to score on a high pop up on the infield the tag up rule is a compromise between that situation and not allowing the runners to advance at all after a ball is caught
