Softball was invented in 1887. There probably isn't a definite date on when the first regulation was created but (i know it is common sense to run from home to first but) having to run a certain direction on the bases is a rule (technically) so the first rules would have had to have been created the day softball was invented, but those said rules are modified every year to ensure our safety.
