The gear doesn't go anywhere w/o its rider.

In theory, the fastest gear is when you have the chain on the biggest chainwheel/chainring at the front, and on the smallest sprocket at the rear - but this is assuming that the rider is strong enough to keep the cranks turning in this gear.

If this gear is too heavy it might actually be faster to drop to a smaller chainwheel/chainring or a bigger sprocket and pedal a bit faster instead.

That depends on how strong you are and how fast you can spin the cranks.

Humans, like engines, work best in a fairly narrow range of RPMs (the pace at which you turn the cranks), so the best gear is the one which lets you keep the cranks turning within that range. It's probably within 70-100 RPM.

You can probably skip the first, maybe also the 2nd gear, as you'll spin out real fast on those. But then I'd probably work my way through all the remaining gears.

it really all depends, if h are going downhill definitely turn it to 8 if u wanna go super fast, but the thing is that 1 is the easiest to pedal on and 8 is the hardest so it all depends on which direction ur going and how fast ur legs r

What is the difference between a gear and brake?

A brake shows the car/bike down until it comes to a hult/stop. A gear changes the speed the engine works at depending on what type of road you are driving on and the speed limits. If you are asking about a bike then the gear's change the speed at which you pedal at, gear 7 on a bike makes you pedal slower but you have to push harder down on the pedals, however gear 1 on a bike makes you have to pedal faster and more genitally on the pedals, - both gears really work your muscles... so if you have a bike with gears up to 7 stay on 3 or 4! Gear box = what you use to change the gears on a car. Handle bar = what you use to change the gears on a bike.

Is gear 1 a low gear on a bike?

Which is the larger gear on a bike - 1st or 5th?

i assume you're referring to the gears mounted on the back wheel. the larger(size) gear is 1, the smaller is 5, meaning 1 is low(relative) gear and 5 is high gear. same with a car.

How do you use a cluch on a dirt bike?

the first thing you do is you start the bike than you pull the clutch than click the gear shift down with your left foot. Then you carefully let out the clutch slowly until it is all the way out. How to use the gear shift- When you click the gearshift down it puts the bike into gear 1 than flick it up than it is gear two ect. to get in to neutral flick it down until gear one than flick it up half way.

When you use a gear with a small diameter to drive a gear with a large diameter what is increased speed or torque?

Torque is increased on the larger, driven gear. The increase can be calculated as the ratio of the radii of the two gears. For example, if the small gear has a radius of 2 cm and the larger gear has a radius of 10 cm, the torque ratio is 10/2 (ten to two), or 5/1 (five to one). So the driven gear is producing 5 times the torque of the driving gear. The speed ratio is the reverse; the driven gear is rotating at 1/5 the speed of the driving gear.

How do you drive a manual dirt bike?

Well most dirt bikes i have seen the gears are like this 5 4 3 2 N 1 To shift gears on a dirt bike if you have a manual transmission if you are in neutral pull in clutch and go down on shifter then reach top speed in gear 1 and shift up etc... (note: if your dirt bike is slowing down if you shifted up then shift up again)
