This question is a bit trickier to answer only because with different sports comes different risks. Here are some examples:

Soccer:

Ankle Injuries

Concussions

Bruises/Scrapes

Skateboarding:

Wrist Injuries

Concussions

Ankle Injuries

Spinal Cord Injuries

Football:

Broken Bones

Concussions - Seizures if concussion is severe

A lot of Physical Contact

Physiotherapy may be required

Paralysis

Swimming/Competitive Diving:

Drowning

Spinal Cord Injuries

Chlorine Poisoning

Muscle Tension - Tearing muscles

Concussion (hit head on diving board)

So, it very much depends on the sport you are partaking in. But remember every sport has risks it doesn't matter if your just kicking a soccer ball around on your own, there are still risks.

Extrinsic Risk factors are things that are not caused by your own body i.e The rain didnt give you muscular imbalance. Extrinsic factors are things like playing Football in the rain and slipping and hurting yourself.

Like most things in life, there is a strong mental component to playing sports. To suceed, you don't necessarily need to have out-of-this-world talent but you definitely need to have traits such as confidence, passion, and dedication - all of which are intrinsic.
