Race horses only have a couple of speeds, fast and faster. During a race the horse uses the fastest gallop he has. Lope, canter or gallop, they are all a three-beat gait.

If you are speaking of gaits like the Fox Trot and Running walk you will need a specific breed of horse as these gaits cannot be taught to ungaited horses. Also the term gaited is not really correct as all horses have gaits, but the term 'easy Gaited' is correct for horses possessing extra gaits and is becoming much more popular a term.

Each breed registry/association calls their horses gaits (Extra easy gaits not standard gaits of walk, trot, canter.) Something different to distinguish it from other breeds.

What is the name of a group of race horses?

They don't really have a name for a group of race horses as far as I know. Cause generally when racing, they compete against each other. And it's a solo race for the win. So there is no association with the other horses, like for example a team of basketball players. There is no real name for a pack of race horses or a herde of race horses, or horde of race horses..............

Another name for horses gait?

There are many gaits that horses can perform. The most basic are walk, trot, canter, and gallop. 'Gaited' horses can also rack, pace, foxtrot, and big lick walk. In dressage, riders can train horses to have a collected walk, working walk, medium walk, and extended walk. These intermediary gaits apply at the trot and canter also. Dressage horses can also be trained to do a passage and piaffe, which are different types of trotting.
