Get the Bends They get the bends; Nitrogen Narcosis. Nitrogen bubbles form in the blood, which is a least painful and at worst, fatal

INCORRECT - Nitrogen Narcosis is brought about by breathing Nitrogen at depth and is resolved by coming up to a shallower depth. The rest of the answer is essentially correct though

Answer depends on a few things..will explain....

IF diver resurfaces quickly but has NOT been down long, and NOT been down deep, AND does NOT hold his breath on the way up.... NOTHING MUCH!!!! :-)

IF he has been down for quite a while OR been down deep for less time, and does NOT hold his breath on the way up.....he probably comes up "BENT" which is to say he has the BENDS.. ( DECOMPRESSION SICKNESS) due to bubbles of nitrogen coming out of his blood and FIZZING basically like a bottle of lemonade which has no bubbles in the bottle till u take the pressure off by opening up the bottle lid!!!

If he has held his breath, from as little as 10 metres deep 30 feet.... that air in his lungs has expanded to twice its original size and blown his lung up, then overpressured them and burst them like a balloon!

Dont come up fast and if u have to, BLOW OUT ALL YOUR AIR AS HARD AS YOU CAN

All being well: nothing.

However, divers who go to deep, stay too long, and then come up to fast, can suffer from decompression sickness (or DCS). Serious cases can cause paralysis or death.
