There are different things that ballet dancers can wear. If you are just starting ballet and you are little, you would wear white tights with a pink body suit and a skirt (not a tu tu), ballet shoes with your hair in a bun. If you have been doing ballet for a couple of years and your are an intermediate you would wear white tights and a blue body suit, ballet shoes and your hair in a bun. If you are a senior and you have been dancing for a while now, you wear a black body suit with white tights and ballet shoes with your hair in a bun. The only time you would wear a tu tu is on stage as a costume when you are performing.
In class/lessons you would most likely wear a leotard with ballet-pink stockings and ballet slippers or pointe shoes. If you were performing you would wear a tutu with stockings and Pointe shoes. You don't always wear pointe shoes, sometimes you wear ballet shoes/slippers.
Do by pre-ballet you mean pre-pointe? Because Pre-Pointe is the lesson that is provided to Pointe ballet dancers that are not yet ready to wear or perform in pointe shoes. Commonly the class is the same if not similar to regular pointe class, the only difference is that the dancer wears regular ballet shoes and performs on demi pointe. Basically, pre-pointe is the class that readies your feet and legs for the strength and skill needed to perform in Pointe Shoes.
