What do players in different Football positions do?

In Football there is a different job for every position. The most used formation is the 4-4-2. Starting with the striker. The striker plays the farthest forward and his main objective is to score goals. In the 4-4-2 there are 2 strikers. The outside half-backs, or the wingers, main objective is to get the pass, take it up the side of the pitch(field), and put the ball in the eighteen-yard box, preferably in the air and just outside the six-yard box. The center half-backs main job is to maintain possesion of the ball, pass the ball around to create openings in the defense, sometimes take shots, and dribble into space. The back four are defenders(backs). This is tricky because you can play the backs two different ways. The first one is the flat back four. This is where all the defenders are in a straight line in the backfield. If this way is used all the defenders work in one unit. Wherever the ball is being pressed through they will gather around and move their concentration along with the ball(This does not mean have all the backs running in circles chasing the ball, but having them all in one clear position just supporting the area withe the ball. The second formation is with instead of two center backs you have One sweeper(someone who stays behind the defenders and just takes care of everything that comes through), and it is played with a stopper(the stopper is more of an attacking defender filling in the space as the ball goes forward). In both of the formations in the back the outside-backs try to filter the oposing wingers to the line(side of the pitch). The outside backs can also sometimes make forward runs and try to cross the ball or shoot. I hope this is helpful.
