∙ 12y ago96 - Occurred on Jan. 10, 2010 when the Arizona Cardinals beat the Green Bay Packers 51-45 during an overtime shootout in the NFC Wildcard playoffs. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers was 28-42 with 422 yards passing and four touchdowns while Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner went 29 of 33 for 379 yards, 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Combined, the teams put up 1,024 yards of offense and 96 points. Arizona started the game with a 17-0 lead but the Packers battled back, tying the score at 38-38 and again at 45-45, making it one of the most exciting football games in NFL playoff history. The final score broke the previous record of 95 that was amassed during the Dec. 30, 1995 playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions. Philadelphia won the contest 58-37. Still, the 96 points still pales in comparison to the record for most combined points scored in an NFL football game. A regular season match up between the Washington Redskins and New York Giants on Nov. 27, 1966 still holds the record at 113 points. Washington won the contest 72-41. The most points scored by a single team in an individual game is 73, scored by the Chicago Bears in the 1940 Championship game against Washington with a 73-0 score. The largest margin of victory up to that time was 64 points when the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Cincinnati Reds 64-0 in 1934. The highest scoring Monday Night Football game occurred at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Oct. 17, 1983 when Packers kicker Jan Stenerud's game winning field goal put gave his team a 48-47 victory over the Washington Redskins. The 95 points they scored combined is a Monday Night Football record that has not been surpassed. The previous mark was 84 points set the previous season when San Diego beat Cincinnati 50-34 on Dec. 20, 1982.
