In games played where the home team is from the American League there are 10 players on each team. This is because the American League allows for a designated hitter, whereas the National League does not.
In order for players to be playable players in "MLB 08 The Show," they must have played at least 1 game in the previous Major League Baseball season and they cannot be 1 of the players that are known as "replacement players" meaning players who played during the 1995 season while there was a Baseball strike ongoing, this is because the replacement players are banned from entering into the Players' Association which means they cannot be in any games that are under license with Major League Baseball and the Players' Association.

You have to do it a player at a time, there's no internet connection that will do it for you like there is for the newer games. The majority of the players on the minor league teams are fictional players and can be edited...the real players can't be edited. You can change just about everything on the fictional players...name, face, skills, etc...about the only thing you can't change is their height and weight. You can go to MLB.com to find all the current rosters and edit the fictional players to match the current players. I put all the old retired players on the class A and AA rosters and try to keep the major league and AAA teams current.
