Neither. It is associated with Cricket. It is a competition between England and Australia which origianated when the wickets were burned and the ashes were put into a small urn.

Its because it is a tradition. England and Australia are the first two cricket-playing nations.
it was in 1882 and Australia beat England in cricket the Australian team then burnt the bails (not the stumps or ball) to mark the first ever official game and to this day England and Australia compete for the ashes (that's why the wining team holds up an urn as there trophy)
The first three Cricket World Cups, in 1975, 1979, and 1983, all took place in England. The fourth competition, in 1987, was shared between India and Pakistan. The champions were Australia, for whom this was their first Cricket World Cup title.
Wales and Australia do not play each other at cricket, they play at rugby and occasionally football but not cricket. In cricket Australia play England although they do have Welsh players in the team sometimes. The next match will be in July 2013 in England.
