Freestyle- A common stroke; usually someone's best. It's fast and efficient. Backstroke- A stroke in which you swim, facing up. Breaststroke- A stroke in which you sort of bob up and down in the pool, moving foward. Butterfly, or "fly"- A stroke in which you kick like a dolphin and throw your arms through the water as if you were shutting a car trunk. Starting Block- The platform in which you dive off of. Beep or "Buzz"- The sound meaning GO! Lap- 25 yards, usually Sprint- A short race Distance- A long race Jammers- A swim suit for men, like a speedo with leg material. A speedo- A man's swimsuit, usually the receiving end of many jokes. It looks a bit like men's briefs, but tighter.
