With the advent of two new teams and extra games scheduled in 2011, it is likely to commence some time in March.
Fremantle Dockers, and the new teams, West Sydney and Goldcoast - all teams of only the most recent of years. So, in essence, there have been no complete 'failures' in that respect. Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Geelong, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Richmond, St. Kilda, Western Bulldogs = 10 teams. There are ten Victorian sides playing in the AFL as of 2011.
There is, its called AFL premiership 2011
In terms of the prime AFL competition, there are currently 17 as of 2011. However, in 2012, it is expected that there will be 18. The oldest of the VFL/AFL teams is Melbourne which was founded in 1859.
