In 2011, there are seven - West Coast, Sydney, Port Adelaide, Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle and Gold Coast. Shortly, West Sydney will form the 8th club outside Victoria.

In 2011 there are 17 teams in the AFL. In 2012 there will be 18 with the introduction of Greater Western Sydney.

In 2010, there were only 16 teams. So AFL is capable of rapid change.
