Mildred Ella Didrikson, better known as Babe was an American athlete. She won two gold medals and one silver medal for track and field in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. Although she took up the game of golf later in life, she went on to become America's first female golf celebrity and the leading player of 1940-1950.She was an all around athlete persisting of many Olympic medals. She was born on June 26, 1911. and died of cancer in 1956.

The Babe Zaharias Museum opened in Beaumont, Texas in 1976... Zaharias was played by actress Susan Clark in the 1975 TV movie Babe. The next year Clark played the title role in the TV movie Amelia Earhart...
