The first elections to the Baseball hall of fame were held in 1936. Babe Ruth, along with Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, and Walter Johnson were elected. Cobb had the most votes with 222. Ruth and Wagner were tied for second most with 215. Mathewson had 205 votes and Johnson had 189.
