No. The umpire calls the ball fair or foul based on where the ball is when the fielder touches it. If the ball is in foul territory when it is touched, the ball is called foul.

What is the ruling for ASA softball on a pitched ball that hits the black part of the plate?

According to the rule book, the umpire will declare the pitch a strike if the ball touches the batter as the batter strikes at the ball, or if the ball touches the batter while the ball is in the strike zone.

When a fielder catches a ball and falls into the stands is it a foul ball or an out?

The baseball rules differentiate between a foul ball and a foul tip.A foul tip caught by the catcher is a strike. If it's the third strike the result is a strikeout, otherwise the at bat continues.A foul ball caught in the air by any fielder (including the catcher) is a pop out (or fly out, which is scored the same).Major League Baseball rules define a foul tip as follows:A FOUL TIP is a batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to the catcher's hands and is legally caught. It is not a foul tip unless caught and any foul tip that is caught is a strike, and the ball is in play. It is not a catch if it is a rebound, unless the ball has first touched the catcher's glove or hand. Many people were taught that a foul tip is anything that does not go over the batter's head, or that does not go at least six feet high, but those criteria are not in the rule book.

Is a runner out if hit by batted ball while standing on a base?

From the official rule book Rule 7.08: the runner is out if "He is touched by a fair ball in fair territory before the ball has touched or passed an infielder. The ball is dead and no runner may score, nor runners advance, except runners forced to advance. EXCEPTION: If a runner is touching his base when touched by an Infield Fly, he is not out, although the batter is out; Rule 7.08(f) Comment: If two runners are touched by the same fair ball, only the first one is out because the ball is instantly dead. If runner is touched by an Infield Fly when he is not touching his base, both runner and batter are out." Rule 7.09 is also relevant. The runner is not out if 1) the ball was first deflected by a fielder or 2) if the umpire is convinced that the ball went through or past the fielder untouched, and in the umpire's judgment no other infielder had the chance to make a play on the ball. If, in the judgment of the umpire, the runner deliberately and intentionally kicks such a batted ball on which the infielder has missed a play, then the runner shall be called out for interference." However, if in the umpire's judgment the runner intentionally kicks the batted ball, the runner shall be called out for interference. If a runner is touched by a batted ball in foul territory he is not out though.

A ball and a book cost 3.50 A book and a mug costs 6.50 A mug and a ball cost 6.50 Find the price of a ball a book and of a mug?

ball + book = 3.5 book + mug = 6.5 mug + ball = 6.5 adding that all up gives us: ball + book + book +mug + mug + ball = 3.5 + 6.5 + 6.5 2*ball + 2*book + 2*mug = 16.5 2*(ball+book+mug) = 16.5 ball+book+mug = 8.25 Answer: 8.25

What are the 19 ways a batter can be declared out?

I don't know how many times, I've answered this on other pages but it's always fun. Here is the official ruling right from the MLB Rules Book. Rule 6 - The Batter Rule 6.05 (a) Hits fair or foul ball (other than a foul tip) is legally caught by a fielder ( PO at 1st) (b) A third strike is legally caught by the catcher. (c) A third strike is not caught by the catcher when the first base is occupied before two are out; (d) Bunts foul on third strike; (e) An Infield Fly is declared; (f) He attempts to hit a third strike and the ball touches him. (g) His fair ball touches him before touching a fielder; (h) After hitting or bunting a fair ball, his bat hits the ball a second time in fair territory. The ball is dead and no runners may advance. If the batter-runner drops his bat anther ball rolls against the bat in fair territory and, in the umpire's judgment, there was no intention to interfere with the course of the ball, the ball is alive and in play; (i) After hitting or bunting a fall ball, he intentionally deflects the course of the ball in any manner while running to first base. The ball is dead and no runners may advance; (j) After a third strike o after he hits a fair ball, he or the fist bas is tagged before he touches first base; (k) In running the last half o the distance from home base to first bas, while the ball is behind fielded to first base, runs outside the three foot line or inside the foul line and tin the umpire's judgment in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base in which case the ball is dead; except that he may run outside the three foot line or inside the foul line to avoid a fielder attempting to field a batted ball. (l) An infielder intestinally drops a fair fly ball or line drive with first, first and second, first and third, or first, second and third base occupied before two are out. The ball is dead and runner or runners shall return to their original base or bases; (m) A preceding runner shall, in the umpires judgment intentionally interfere with a fielder who is attempt to catch a thrown ball or to throw a ball in an attempt to complete an y play (n) With tow out, a runner on third base and two strikes on the batter, the runner attempts to steal home base on a legal pitch and the ball touches the runner in the batter's strike zone. The umpire shall call Strike Three the batter is out and the run shall not count; before two are out, the umpire shall call Strike Three the ball is dead and the run counts. BUT WAITE THERE IS MORE......Rule 6.06 See your major league rules book from the MLB web page for more rules.

What is the correct definition of a fair catch?

during a punt the receiving team may choose to fair catch the ball. The player signals this to the other team and the refs by waiving his hand high in the air before he catches the ball. When he does this and then catches the ball the play is over and the offense comes out and starts from the exact spot he caught the ball. No defensive player is allowed to hit a player who signals fair catch. If a player calls a faircatch and then touches but does not catch the ball the play continues and the kicking team may get the ball and then will have a first down.

IN football One knee in bounds equal two feet?

The answer is yes. There is a book written by John Madden entitled "one Knee equals two feet (and everything else you need to know about football)" that deals with this subject in depth. The book was published in 1986 but can still be found on Amazon.com or ebay. The NFL rules article 3 states "A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds: (a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and (b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands.
