The point of cheerleading is to support the team, while entertaining the crowd. Cheerleaders do this by performing stunts, tumbling, dancing, cheering, and being peppy. While cheerleading started out as a sideline only sport it has evolved into being a very competitive sport. For many schools cheerleaders have a football, competition , and then basketball season, which is alot to take in !

Why do girls like cheerleading?

Well first of all there is a difference between football cheerleading and competetive cheerleading. In my opionion and probably every other competetive cheerleader's opinion, competetive cheerleading is much harder! But back to the question, most competetive cheerleaders like it because it is a challenge and it combines tumbling, cheering, dancing, and stunts! It teaches you commitment and responsibility, and also gives you great physical health!!

Is football harder than cheerleading?

There is no way to determine if a sport is "harder" than another sport. So lets compare football and cheering (I'm going to use All-Star cheering here) Goal of Sport: Football: Outplay your opponent, using formations, to score the most points to win Cheerleading: Perform a 2:30 routine (composed of stunts, tumbling, jumps, and dance) without flaws to receive a higher score than your opponent. In terms of skill: Football: Football requires stamina, agility, speed Cheerleading: Cheering requires, stamina, strength, flexibility, and coordination In terms of difficulty: Not to down football, but I think its more difficult to throw a girl in the air, or do a back tuck than it is to throw a ball down a field. In terms of danger: Cheerleading is the 3rd most dangerous sport in the world. Football is the 10th Safety: Football: Padding and helmits Cheerleading: Mats, however no body protection Cheerleading has no "off season" no half- time, no time-out and no bench

Who invented cheerleading stunts?

Cheerleading stunts were invented by Lawrence 'Herkie' Herkimer. He is credited with not only creating moves like the 'herkie,' but also patenting the pom-pom and the spirit stick.

Is cheerleading harder then gymnastics?

It depends on what kind of cheerleading. Is gymnastics harder than school/sideline cheerleading. Yes, no doubt. But gymnastics and All-Star cheerleading are really very similar. Both require many hours of practicing routines, tumbling, and conditioning. Cheerleading however incorporates complicated and dangerous stunts and tosses. I would say (having done both) that cheering and gymnastics are about the same. *This does not include elite/olympic bound/olympic gymnasts. I would say that they have an edge over cheerleading

Is cheerleading harder than gymnastics?

The only answers to this question will be opinions. There is no such thing as a scale of difficulty. I personally would say that cheerleading (Allstar/competitive, not sideline) and gymnastics are equally matched in terms of the general population. Obviously Olympic gymnastics is harder than cheerleading. Both focus heavily on floor tumbling. While gymnastics also incorporates bars, beam, and vault, cheerleading also incorporates stunts, tosses, and jumps.

Why do people think that cheerleading is dangerous?

Because it is. Cheerleaders are often injured when doing stunts. Especially when the cheerleader that does air stunts is dropped.

What is cheer dancing?
