Yes it is. The top leagues and top players are driven by money, they all want to get as much as they can. Multi million pound television deals can be gained the farther the team goes in competitions and what they qualify for. The players are on thousands of pounds a week and some say they don't care about the game they only care about the money. However, football clubs are businesses and they are there to make money.
