Ok this is not college they do not rank you in your division based on your divisional record it is all on your overall record. Each division has a winner which gives you six playoff teams then the top two teams that did not win there division from each league make the playoffs

In the NFL, it's impossible to win your division if you don't have the best overall record.

The team with the best overall record does win the division, but if you are close and you win more than the second place teams in other divisions you can make the playoffsin a wild card spot.

How is it decided which division plays which division in the baseball playoffs?

There are four teams from each league that make the playoffs; the three division winners anda fourthteam that hasthe best recordbut does not win their division. This fourth team is called the 'wildcard' team.In most cases, the division winner with the best overall season record plays the wildcard team and the other two division winners play each other. But, in the case where the wildcard team and thedivision winnerwith the best overall record come from the same division, thedivision winnerwith the second overall best record plays the wildcard team and thedivision winnerwith the best overall record plays the division winner with the third best overall record. Confusing? Kinda, and kinda not really fair either, but MLB does not want two teams from the same division playing each other in the first round of the playoffs.

In the NFL if you win all your divisional games are you in the playoffs?

No. A team's overall win-loss record is used to determine who makes the playoffs. Divisional win-loss record is a criteria used in breaking some ties when it comes to playoff eligibility but is not the sole criteria used in determining who won a division. If two teams finish tied for first place in a division at the end of the season, divisional win-loss record is the second tie breaker used, after head-to-head win-loss record, to determine the division winner. But a team that won all of their divisional games and lost all of their other games would wind up 6-10 and not make the playoffs. No. The team with the best overall win-loss record in the division wins that division and receives an automatic playoff berth. In the event of a tie between two teams, the team with more head-to-head wins over the other team is declared the winner. If there is still a tie, the team with the better overall division record is declared the winner.

Why didnt the patriots make the playoffs in 09?

The reason why the Patriots did not make the playoffs is because at least 1 team from each division goes into the playoffs; the one who wins the division always goes. The patriots went 11-5, and the Ravens went 11-5 (neither won their division) but the Ravens had a better division record, therefore they get the priority spot over the patriots.

How does a team make it to the World Series?

By winning its division and then winning the two league playoff championships. There are four teams from each league that go to the playoffs, three division winners and one wildcard team. The usual seeding is the division winner with the best season record plays the wildcard team and the two other division winners play each other. However, if the team with the best overall record and the wildcard team come from the same division then the wildcard team will play the division winner with the second best overall record and the division winner with the best overall record will play the other division winner. The winners of those two seven game series then play another seven game series with the winner advancing to the World Series.

Does winning all your division games in the NFL make you first in that division?

No. It is only the overall record that matters when it comes to Division Championships. A team could conceivably win every divisional matchup, yet lose every other game for a record of 6-10, while another team in the same division could lose every divisional matchup, but win every other game for a record of 10-6 and head to the playoffs as the Division Champions (if the other two teams' records were 9-5 or worse). The division games do matter in the case of a tie for the best record in the division, as the head to head record is the first tiebreaker for entry to the playoffs and seeding.

Can 3 teams in major league baseball in the same division gone to the playoffs?

Why don't the 1st and 2nd seed in each division make the playoff and the 2 teams with the best overall record take the 2 spots in the nba playoffs?

the phoenix suns were the #2 seed in the pacific division. the lakers played a #3seed in the north division the u.jazz the suns would have given the l.a. lakers a much more exciteing and tougher match-up than the jazz. i think it's unfair to have 3-teams in the playoffs from the north division and 4-teams in the south division because they had a better record. i don't think a team is better than another team because they won 1-more game. phoenix suns could have beat the lakers in a 7-game series.

Can NFL team have a losing record and make the playoff?

Yes. Six teams from each conference make the playoffs, the four division winners and the two teams with the best won/loss record that did not win their division. If a division winner's record is less than .500 they still make the playoffs. If the record of one of the two teams with the best record that did not win their division is less than .500, they still make the playoffs. Only three teams with losing records have ever made the NFL playoffs: The Browns and Lions both entered the 1982 playoffs with 4-5 records. (The season was shortened by a players' strike.) In 2010 the Seattle Seahawks won the NFC West with a 7-9 record, becoming the first NFL team to make the playoffs with a losing record in a full season.
