It just depends on where you want it... Personally I put my varsity letter on the sleeve of my jacket and put my pin on the back of my jacket by my name.

Can boys wear girls varsity jacket?

It depends on the culture at your school. If there is a distinct jacket for varsity players as distinct from junior varsity, and the freshman is not a part of the varsity team, then probably not. At my high school, there was just one "letter jacket", which was the same throughout high school, and freshmen who had earned letters could wear it. (I suppose technically you could wear it without the letter, but you'd have looked kind of like a doofus.)

Did Steve Garvey play for Michigan state football in the 1966?

No. Garvey was a freshman at Michigan State in 1966 and was not able to play varsity football as the rules back then did not allow freshman to play on the varsity team. He was on the varsity team in 1967 and earned a letter as a defensive back. Garvey left Michigan State in 1968 after being drafted in the 1st round of the MLB draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

How can you letter in a sport?

Lettering in a sport usually has to do with your High School years. If you letter in a sport that means that you played on the Varsity team and you remained on the team for that entire year. To letter you must play a varsity sport and usually at the end of the year most teams throw a banquet and your coach will hand you the initials of your school which is considered your letter, it is also what you put on letterman jackets in high school.

Do you get a varsity letter for each sport you do?

You get a varsity letter by playing at the varsity level in sports. Often your coach will set up standards for you to get it, such as: play in 10 games. You can also get a varsity letter for academics, and sometimes your school will hand them out for the fine arts too. Those will usually have standards too, like: get all A's for three years, or be in a fine arts class or marching band for three years, (something along those lines.) You do not have to be a certain age, (I'm a freshman and got a varsity letter in soccer and will get one in track.)

Does NHS count as a bar on a letterman jacket?

No, a NHS patch is a mark that you did this non-sports activity. Bar is a mark you include underneath if you did the same sports activity more than once. For example if you play football you would get a football helmet to pin on your letter jacket. The next year instead of giving you another helmet they give you a bar (or chevron).A sports bar is a pin or a patch that is given to an athlete at the varsity. Its importance is that it shows the level you are in. This is because they are given in three different levels namely freshman, junior varsity and varsity.NHS (National Honor Society) members can show their achievements with the patch.Usually non-sport patches do not gain bars.
