So there is a two-year interval between any given Summer Olympics and the preceding or following Winter Games. The change to the schedule of the modern Olympics was made in 1994, so there were Winter Olympics in both 1992 and 1994. Previously they were held the same year as the Summer Olympics, beginning in 1924.
