as many as they want
I am assuming you are referring to the National Football League playoffs. There are four divisions within each conference. The team that wins its division is in the playoffs automatically. Of the remaining teams in each conference, the two with the best records are also in the playoffs as wild card teams. (There are various tiebreaker rules.) Of the division winning teams, the two teams with the best records in each conference get a bye, and the remaining two division leaders each play a wild card team in the first round of playoffs.
The Lakers and Celtics:D
Four teams per division
A maximum of 4 since there are eight divisions in the League and each team plays the other teams within their division twice and each team within a division of a Conference plays each team within a division of the other Conference.
The winner from each division makes the playoffs. The 2 best teams in the conference who didn't wil their division will also be in the playoffs.
Teams are not "chosen" as such. The top team in each division are seeded 1-2-3 in each conference regardless of the number of points they have. Then the next five teams with the most points are seeded 5-8. These eight teams in each conference then play best of seven series, 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5. After each round, teams are reseeded in terms of points and rounds continue until the two conference winners are left to face each other in the Stanley Cup Final.
8 teams in each of the 2 conferences make the playoffs. Each conference has 3 divisions. Only the division winners are assured playoff spots. The other 5 spots in each conference go to the remaining teams with the best records. The final faceoff is the eastern conference champion against the western conference champion
Two wild cards in each CONFERENCE regardless of which Division they come from.
The NFL is split into the American Football Conference (AFC), and the National Football Conference (NFC). Each conference is split four ways: North, South, East, and West. Each division contains 4 teams for a combined total of 32 teams. The NFL puts each team in certain divisions depending on where each team is located.
There are two conferences in the NFL and each conference is broken into four divisions. Six teams from each conference make he playoffs. In each conference, the four division winners advance to the playoffs and the two teams that were not division winners that have the best regular season record, called wild cards, also advance to the playoffs.Six teams from the NFC and six teams from the AFC make the play-offs. There are three division winners and three wildcard teams from each conference.
To make the nhl playoffs you have to be the top team in your division or in the top 5 teams in your conference besides the division champions. 8 teams are taken from each conference.
NHL, as of the past few decades, has expanded to 30 teams overall (6 in Canada, the rest in the US). Each team is in a different, individual city and is an individual NHL franchise. The 30 teams are organized into two Conferences: East and West. Each Conference has 15 teams. Within the East and West Conferences are further geographical divisions of the teams. The 15 teams in each Conference are further grouped into 5 teams per divison, with 3 divisons per Conference. (That's 30 teams overall - 15 per conference - 5 per conference division). The Western Conference has the Central Divison, Northwest Divison, and Pacific Division; the Eastern Conference has the Southeast Division, the Northeast Divison, and the Atlantic Division. Eastern and Western teams play each other about once a season, while Eastern teams play each other 4 or so times a season. Teams that share a Divison play each other 6 times a season. Playoffs are determined by Conference with 8 of the 15 teams in each Conference making it. The 1, 2, and 3 positions in each Conference go to the division-leading teams for each of the 3 divisons in the Conference, while 4-8 are determined by points. In the playoffs, Eastern and Western Conference teams don't face each other until the Stanley Cup Finals (first round: Conference Quarterfinals; 2nd round: Conference Semifinals; 3rd round: Conference Finals; 4th and final round: Stanley Cup Finals)
I'm assuming we're talking about the National Basketball Association here. I could list the names of the NCAA conferences as well, but that would take a little longer than I want to spend. Also, the names of the Conferences is pretty easy: Eastern Conference and Western Conference. For the sake of completeness, I'm assuming that the question refers to the names of the Divisions within those Conferences. The NBA is arranged as follows: EASTERN CONFERENCE - Atlantic Division, Central Division, Southeast Division WESTERN CONFERENCE - Northwest Division, Pacific Division, Southwest Division
All conference teams are composed of all the best players at each posistion throughout the conference. Just like an all star team.
A "wildcard" is a team that made the playoffs without winning their division. Playoffs are made up of the top 6 teams from each conference. There are 4 division winners and 2 wildcards from each conference. The wildcards are the 2 teams with the best win-loss records that did not win their division
The NBA teams are mainly divided by region. It is first divided in two; Eastern Conference and Western Conference. The two Conferences are the subdivided into Divisions. There are total of 6 Division, 3 in each Conference. Each Division consist of 5 teams.
The European and U.S. teams have 12 players each chosen by a captain.
There are four divisions in each conference of the NFL and each division winner automatically qualifies for the playoffs. There are two other teams selected for the playoffs that did not win their division and these teams are known as 'wild card' teams. The wild card teams are the two teams in each conference that had the best regular season record of those teams that did not win their division.
In 1960, the NFL had two conferences, the East and the West, and there were no divisions within either conference. The East conference had 6 teams and the West Conference had 7. In 1967, the NFL broke the two conferences into four divisions, the Capitol, Century, Coastal, and Central. Four teams were in each division. When the AFL-NFL merger occurred in 1970, each conference, American and National, had three divisions. Those were the East, Central, and West. Five teams were in each conference's East division and four were in both the Central and West. In 2002, with the addition of the Houston Texans as the 32nd NFL team, each conference was divided into four divisions from three. The new divisions were the East, North, West, and South. Four teams were in each division.
It depends on the division and conference. Teams in the same division play each other more often, followed by teams in the same conference, and then they may play teams in the other conference only once or twice per year. I think they play 6 games against each team in their division and I don't think there is a set number for any other teams, but the NHL is looking to make it more consistant.
In the NHL, the top 8 teams from each conference make the playoffs, regardless of what division they are in.
It's not a matter of which division, it all has to do with the standings. The 4 division winners in each conference are ranked 1 through 4, then two wild cards fill out 5 and 6. 1 and 2 get a bye (week off), 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5. In any case, it is possible for teams in the same division to meet in the playoffs. To put it another way, all of the playoff games in each conference could be teams in the same division, or they could be different. Only the Superbowl guarantees the different conference matchup.
They changed the playoff format in 2020 and now there are 7 teams from each conference. The #1 seed in the conference gets a bye and they added an extra wildcard team.
There are four divisions in each of the two conferences in the NFL. The eight division winners make the playoffs and the teams with the two best records in each conference that did not win their division make the playoffs as 'wildcards'.
