In other leagues outside of America is probably 5, however there could be 6 in others. The NBA is the only one I know where you can have more than 5.
In the NBA, you are allowed 6 fouls. After you get the sixth foul, you are out for the rest of the game.
The PF stands for personal fouls. While the position, "PF" is in fact power forward, "PF" when found on the score card and the box score stands for how many personal fouls the player committed.
