Each state is different. Some, like Alaska, Vermont, Rhode Island, Deleware, New Hampshire and Maine do not have a single Division I-FBS (formerly Division I-A) program. Others, like Texas, have many (Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, North Texas, Texas-San Antonio, Texas State, Rice, Baylor, Texas-El Paso, etc.).

As of now, eight-man football is played in several states across the United States, but the exact number can vary as programs develop or change. States like Nebraska, Montana, and Texas have prominent eight-man football leagues. Generally, around 20 to 25 states have established eight-man football programs at the high school level. For the most accurate and current information, it's best to consult state athletic associations or specific eight-man football organizations.
