It's not a 'draw' in the traditional sense. It's a schedule devised by the AFL to maximise attendance. Each club makes submissions to the AFL requesting certain games/venues they want. For example, most Melbourne based teams request home games at the MCG against large crowd drawing Collingwood as this helps revenue.
Based on these submissions and traditions (such as Collingwood and Essendon playing on ANZAC day) the AFL releases the fixture.

Traditionally, AFL fixtures have been available through newsagents. However, with the advent of betting on AFL, probably TAB agencies will also be able to lead you in the right direction, if they are not available there.

The first (drawn) grand final was held on September 24th. The replay was held one week later on October 1st.

There was one on the last Saturday in September, 2010. Other than that, there has not been a drawn grand final since Hawthorn drew with North Melbourne in 1977. North went on to win the Premiership the following week.
