Soccer is played in Ireland in the same way as soccer is in other countries. In Ireland there is a sport called Gaelic Football, sometimes referred to as Irish Football by people who are not as familiar with the game. It may be this that you are referring to. It is very different than soccer, with the most obvious difference being that players can handle the ball.
