How does drop effect you swing in softball?

The drop is just the difference between the length of the bat and the weight of the bat. Ex: 33", 23oz bat = -10 (drop 10); 33", 24oz = -9 (drop 9) etc. All-in-all it just depends on how tall a person is and how much weight she can handle when swinging. A -9 would be heavier than a -10, but a -9 33" bat weighs as much as a -10 34" bat. So, if a bat is too heavy or too light it can negatively effect the hitter's swing.

In softball can a bat be carried to firstbase on a hit?

After the ball is hit, the batter MUST drop the bat at home plate. It is important to remember not to "throw" the bat behind you in a game. It could result in an automatic out.

Is there a rule in the Major League Baseball rule book stating when a batter must drop the bat?

Section 6 of the MLB rulebook concerns the batter. There is no clause in Section 6 stating when a batter must drop the bat, nor is there a clause in Section 6 stating that the batter must drop the bat after hitting a fair ball. There might be some obscure clause somewhere else in the MLB rule book that covers this but nothing is found in Section 6. What is the rule in baseball if you skip a batter?

What does -12 mean you were looking at a fastpich bat and it had a -12?

The -12 is the 'drop' of the bat and means the number of ounces the bat weighs is 12 less than the number of inches the bat is in length. If you have a 32 inch bat, a -12 drop means the bat weighs 20 ounces. If you have a 30 inch bat, a -12 drop means the bat weighs 18 ounces. If you know the length of the bat in inches and the drop, you can figure out how many ounces the bat weighs.

What does -11 mean on a baseball bat?

It stands for drop 10. The drop of a bat depends on what the length and weight is. You find out the drop by subtracting the weight from the length. So if your bat was 32 inches long and 22 ounces then it would be drop 10 (-10) if your bat was 32 inches and 25 ounces then it would be drop 7 (-7)

How do you calculate at bats?

A batter is credited with an at bat for every plate appearance except: 1) base on balls 2) hit by pitch 3) sacrifice fly 4) sacrifice bunt 5) catcher's interference If an inning ends while a batter is in the middle of an at bat (eg., a base runner is thrown out stealing for the 3rd out) no at bat is credited and the batter is the first batter to bat in the next inning. If the batter is replaced before the at bat is completed, no at bat is credited unless the batter was replaced with two strikes and the replacement batter strikes out. The strikeout is credited to the batter who was replaced.

A baseball bat is a machine. What provides the input force when a batter swings and hits a ball?

What is bat drop and how is it determined?

The drop of the bat is the difference between the length minus the weight. For example, if a bat is 33" long and it weighs 30 ounces, then the drop is -3. The drop of the bat varies in baseball, depending on the level of play. Little League doesn't have any regulations for the drop zone. Senior League baseball (ages 10 - 14) has a drop zone regulation of no lighter than -8. High school baseball has a drop zone regulation of no lighter than -3. College baseball has a drop zone regulation of no lighter than -3.
