Yes, a lacrosse head can be put into hot water to soften the netting. Just be sure that the water is not boiling as it could either melt or weaken the plastic structure of the head. However, the best way to loosen the netting on a lacrosse head is to break it in by using it.
Golf netting can be purchased online from companies such as Par2Pro, Sport Netting, and West Coast Netting. Golf Netting can also be purchased from Amazon and eBay.
You can keep birds from getting trapped in bird netting by removing the netting or using a color of netting that the birds can see.
It depends on what you mean by "tougher." Boys lacrosse is more aggressive and they are allowed to check the body as well as the stick. However, they wear a lot of padding and have a large pocket in the netting of their stick that makes it easier to keep the ball in. Only stick to stick checking is allowed in girls lacrosse, but the only protection they wear is a mouth guard and goggles and they do not have the large pocket advantage that boys do making it more difficult to maintain possession of the ball.
Put the ball in your stick, make your stick eye level. & see if you can see some of the ball over the head of your lacrosse stick. Meaning, that the whole ball is not completely inside the whole stick. If it is inside the whole head of your stick, you need to tighten your netting.
