It damages their reputation and their health. The biggest problem with Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs) is that they give an unfair advantage to the athletes who take them. Athletes who don't use PEDs claim, with merit, they are operating under an unfair obstacle. OTOH, some athletes complain that athletes who can afford high-altitude training, or even spend time in pressure-chambers are physically altering their bodies to produce similar advantages. Further, athletes who are receiving subsidies for their training from associations or governments can be said to have lost their amateur standing, supposedly a requirement for Olympic or World Championship competition. Still further, obviously professional athletes, like the WBA and the NHL are currently allowed to compete at World and Olympic level. Now then...feel free to take a stand...there are plenty of vacancies open.

Drugs can improve sports by making the player more energetic and better at the game. But you see drugs are very dangerous so if you are thinking about taking drugs to improve your sport activity don't because it would be the worst choice you ever made. I know someone who used drugs in high school to help himself be better at Baseball, well he got a scholarship but soon got it taken away because of his drug use. All schools will do rug testing at one point so don't throw your life away for a stupid sport.

Depends on which drug it is. But pretty much all organized sports have bans against both recreational and performance enhancing drug, so if you get caught with those you won't be allowed to participate. And that would really affect your performance.

Drugs affect our performance in different ways. In terms of breathing, depressant drugs like cannabis, alcohol and opiates, slow down your breathing, while in terms of heart rate, stimulant drugs such as cocaine, ecstasy and speed, increase your heart rate and put undue stress on your heart. Depressants like cannabis reduce your motor activity so it is hard to co-ordinate your movements during sport. Hallucinogens like cannabis and magic mushrooms can play havoc with your senses, while depressants, such as alcohol, cause mild anaesthesia or loss of feeling.

The drug abuse among athletes is not actually drug abuse, it is anabolic steroids abuse. Anabolic steroids help increase muscle mass, and exercise capability of the athletes, causing better performance. However, this is strictly prohibited.
