How did auto racing originate?

It was inevitable. Once passenger cars were invented, they wanted to see wich car/driver was faster than the other and competed. The 2nd car was built and the 1st guy said my car is faster. The second car was built. So naturally moonshiners started to compete with each other to see who could deliver their goods the fastest. Then slowly they stopped racing on the dirt road and onto dirt tracks for extra money. The rest is history. They are all correct answers,the most is the moonshine answer,but i can take it one step farther when you say "THEY" well "THEY"(moonshiners) were what we (America) know today as southerners,but some of us know them as the (Ulster-Scots)a.k.a Ulster-Scotch/a.k.a the Scotch-Irish a.k.a the Ulster men a.k.a the people with out a country a.k.a "The Irish your mom never told you about"lol research now shows us that these are the people from North Ireland you came here in mass numbers and tis the reason the South has their own language (southern Drawl) or what ever you want to call it!but at any sence the south and everything about it is greatly influenced by the Ulster-Scots,and you can search any of the names i gave you and find many informations about the people from the south cheers Al
