Greece did fairly well during Basketball at 2004 summer olympics. They were placed in Group B of 6 teams, and qualified second with 3 victories and 2 losses. They defeated Puerto Rico, a notorious team at that time. They fell short of defeating USA team, losing a close game of 71 to 77. Qualifying to the playoffs, Greece lost the first game against Argentina 64 to 69. In 5th through 8th place classifiers, Greece defeated Puerto Rico to win 5th place in the olympics. The team was led by Michalis Kakiouzis, who scored 20 points during the game. Greece received 5th place, one of the best places Greece has gotten during the Olympics.
