What is the difference between slow pitch softball and regular softball?

Slowpitch Softball is played using a high-arc pitching technique where the ball slowly falls into the strike-zone. Slowpitch speeds range from 25mph-35mph. Fastpitch Softball a windmill pitching technique is used that increases that speed of the pitch significantly and allows the pitcher to throw different kinds of pitches like drop, rise, curve, screw, and change. Fastpitch speed range from usually 50mph-65mph. The rules are basically the same, minus some variations in batting. In slow pitch if you foul off the third strike you are out. In fastpitch the strike is not called until you swing with no contact with the ball. Both require different equipment. EX:A fastpitch bat is different from a slowpitch bat. Slow Pitch...the coach pitches it and fast pitch....one of the teammates pitches it! :)

How does pitching speed affect batting distance?

In 18 U Gold softball and collegiate softball, the distance from the plate to the pitching mound is 43 feet. This is because the pitchers at these levels throw much faster than the pitchers in the lower levels. In high school at 14U - 18U the pitching distance is 40 feet. Notice there is a difference between 18U and 18U Gold level.

Although the distance may vary between leagues and associations, the pitching distance in 10 and under modified or fastpitch softball is usually accepted to be 35 feet. This distance has changed in some national associations over the past few years, and you may find anything from 34-36 feet. Where did fastpitch softball start?

The problem is that fastpitch softball is a derivative of slowpitch softball. Slowpitch has a place; however, the entire reason for throwing underarm was to make it a more leisurely game. Someone then decided to alllow girls to hurl it underarm at high speeds. It is a fundamentally flawed sport due to the imbalance between pitcher and batter. There is really no reason for it to exist other than the sexism that has kept girls from playing baseball.
