You can, but some people say it damages it. (My younger sister never takes hers out and they're perfectly fine.)
My mother once told me that if they are gold then you are fine because gold earrings do not rust so its better for the earring to stay pretty and for the skin of the pierced area. I think that taking a bath with some normal earrings humidity or water stays inside the pierced ear and the earring rusts making the skin affected by it causing you to have a bit of itchiness or a bit dark inside. But you never know. Maybe putting a layer of transparent nail polish might help on the loop part that you put your ear inside and secure it so it doesn't fall out. (just to kind of be clear i meant the poky side not the decoration (but you could))
