It depends on the person. On one hand, a person has run a mile in 3minutes 43.13seconds . On the other hand, a lot of people can't run a mile at all.
If the calories you burn exceed the calories you take in, you will lose fat. A mile a week is insufficient You'll lose a little, if you could run a mile more often like every day though, you should see some visible results ina week or so.
as people run they tend to carry their whole weight along with them and so this makes it harder on fat people to run as they have to carry their weight with them which makes them get tired easily and so they cannot run.
