The new style flex cups are comfortable if fitted correctly. Generally though, with any groin cup, it is important to wear an athletic supporter under it to restrict movement of the family jewels. Wearing the cup itself is generally not the most comfortable, but it is not as restrictive as some claim.

With vigorous movement cups can sometimes shift upward or to the side, creating the possibility that a strike to the groin will pinch a testicle between the cup's rim and one's body. If this occurs, it may be one of the worst pains possible and potentially lead to a testicular torsion (twisting) or rupture. This in turn could lead to sterility or amputation.
