a large amount of people participate in in NCAA sports.
FOOTBALL! They have a large number of players with over $75 million dollar contracts!
Absolutely. Boomboxes are great for basketball courts or other large venues. They typically have better speakers than portable music players.
Basketball has a roster of only 15 players, while football has rosters of 53 athletes. Therefore, the pay has to be split among more players. Football also has only one "star" position that garners a lot of attention and generates large contracts: quarterback. In basketball, any of the five position players could be worthy of max contracts due to the nature of the game. Each sport also has different collective bargaining agreements between the player unions and the respective owner's associations.
Ticket sales, TV and radio broadcast rights, concession sales, team logoed merchandise sales, stadium advertising, etc. A large chunk of money to pay professional sports players comes from government subsidies... in other words our taxes go to pay those outrageous salaries.
