YES ... How do you think he'll throw the ball home ??? The way you get called for a balk is by making a motion towards a base while on the rubber ... you don't ever have to put the ball in the glove ... this is only do so that the batter will not see the grip and know what pitch is coming ...

What does pitching out of the stretch mean?

When runners are on base, pitchers generally tend to pitch out of the stretch, meaning that they shorten the time it takes to prepare and throw a pitch. This is done to prevent base runners from stealing base. When there are no runners on base, pitchers tend to pitch out of the wind up.

Balk at first base?

If a runner is on first, and the pitcher balks, he is awarded 2nd base. The balk rule was instituted to keep pitchers from deceiving the runners.

When pitcher tosses baseball to?

The physical action of throwing a baseball to a batter is known as "Pitching." The act of pitching, throwing the ball to the batter, is regulated by many rules dependent on the situation. For instance, there are 2 types of windups, the "Stretch" and the "Full Windup" which starting pitchers will use both types depending if runners are on base and which base they occuppy, but "relief pitchers" will normally use the stretch position regardless of the situation.

What should a pitcher do when a catcher misses a ball and the ball rolls towards the fence?

In general, if there are base runners, the pitcher should run to cover home. If there are no runners on, the pitcher can just stay on the mound.

What does 'working out of the stretch' for a pitcher mean?

When there are no runners on base, pitchers take a "full windup", which usually entails a lot of motion with the legs and arms; it takes a relatively long time for this windup to take place and the ball to be released. When there are runners on base, they are allowed to steal the next base and could easily do so if the pitcher takes his full windup. So to counter-act that, pitchers "work out of the stretch," which means they stand with their back foot parallel and adjacent to the pitching rubber. After getting their signal from the catcher you will see them bring the ball to their glove and come to a stop before pitching. From this position they can quickly throw to the base where the runner is to make sure they aren't getting too big of a leadoff. And when they do pitch the ball they just take a fairly quick step forward and fire the pitch. This step is much faster than the rocking motion they use when in the "windup" and therefore there gives much less time for the runner to steal a base. Many relief pitchers will always "work from the stretch" even without runners on base. Since they come into the game with runners on base often, trying to keep consistent with two different pitching deliveries isn't worth it.

Does a relief pitcher who allows inherited runners to score receive a blown save?

I don't think it's a save situation if a pitcher comes in with runners on... But even if it is, then it is indeed a blown save. He gave up the run even if it is unearned. He was expected to close the game out / earn a save and he blew it. Yes he is. His ERA wouldn't be affected, but if he gives up the tying run under any circumstances, he is charged with a blown save.

Does the pitcher get the loss if no runs were scored yet?

Yes, if he leaves the game with runners on base (who are not on base due to an error) who come in to score to cause his team to give up the lead, the pitcher who is not on the field gets the loss. He is responsible for those runners. If a pitcher leaves no runners on or exits at then end of a half inning with a tie score, then he will receive a no decision, regardless of the performance of his team afterwards.
